  1. What is ShangMail?
    ShangMail is the first of its kind to provide instantaneous mail service to individual subscribers. Through the active pushing technology, ShangMail enables you to receive and send e-mails instantaneously through your cell phone as easily as you receive and send the short messages. Meanwhile, duplicates can be kept in both mail boxes in your cell phone and ShangMail box.
  2. What’s the different function that ShangMail has from those of the inherent mail box in your cell phone?
    You have to take initiative to visit your mail box in cell phone to check whether there is a new mail, but the ShangMail can send the new mail to your cell phone, so that you can receive the mail as conveniently as you receive a short message.
Registration
  1. How to register a ShangMail address?
    You can visit the ShangMail website, and fill the required information in the registration page; or you can install a ShangMail software which will register for you automatically.
  2. Is the username the only way of registration?
    Yes, the username that you are using is the only symbol to use ShangMail.
  3. Why can’t I register through my cell phone?
    We are quite sorry that cell phones of Sony Ericsson K600, K608, V600, K750, D750, W700, W800, Z520 and Z525 series cannot support the customer-end registration function.
Installation
  1. Should I link my cell phone to Internet to use ShangMail?
    Yes, so please ensure that your SIM card is accessible to GRPS.
  2. What kinds of SIM cards are acceptable if the subscribers want to use ShangMail?
    Subscribers of Gotone, M-zone and Easyown of China Mobile and CDMA of China Unicom can use ShangMail. You may consult local mobile operators for details.
  3. Can the subscriber receive or send annexes through ShangMail?
    The subscriber can receive or send annexes of any formats, but can only read it when the annex can be opened by the software in the cell phone.
  4. What kinds of mail box that ShangMail subscribers should have?
    ShangMail supports almost all popular mail boxes, such as those in Sina, Sohu, 263 and so on, only if they support POP3/IMAP4.
  5. How many mail box addresses can be added to ShangMail?
    The Professional Edition subscriber can add five addresses, and all mails sent to these addresses can be received through cell phone.
  6. Will the cell phone consume more power when ShangMail is used?
    Some electricity is certain to be consumed for using ShangMail, as it is a program in the cell phone. Besides, to some degree, the consumption rate also depends on the cell phone itself. Therefore, it is suggested that the subscriber should charge the cell phone in time when using ShangMail.
  7. How to download a divided e-mail?
    Open the e-mail, click “Options” and chose marked download, then you can see the whole e-mail when finishing download.
Usage
  1. How to configure a Yahoo e-mail box?
    At present, only e-mail boxes registered in Yahoo China are supported, namely, those ending in “.cn.” The configuration information is as follows: Incoming mail server (POP3): pop.mail.yahoo.com.cn, Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com.cn. The subscriber must sign in his yahoo e-mail box and subscribe the “POP setting+ Short message notice” in the toolbar at the left side; otherwise, the POP function may be limited.
  2. Why is ShangMail unavailable to a 126 or 163 e-mail box?
    The SMTP and POP3 services are not directly accessible to new subscribers of the free e-mail box at www.163.com (including those upgraded to 3G). But subscribers who have subscribed the customer-end function before will remain unaffected. Such services will be provided to subscribers if needed, through “Mail box membership” “Points accumulation promotion” or in other forms. Please contact the customer service staff of the 163.com for details.
  3. How to download the ShangMail?
    You can log in the www.shangmail.com, and download the ShangMail software through three ways provided in the website, or you can log in wap.ShangMail.com through your cell phone, to download the installation package and install it directly.
  4. Why does a notice reading that “ShangMail program is not initiated or there is error about the program” always pop up?
    When ShangMail software is installed in cell phone using Windows CE, mails cannot be received or sent sometimes, or a notice reading “ShangMail program is not initiated or an error occurred in the program” pops up, which is caused by locking. You can download the unlocking tool and re-install the ShangMail software after unlocking.
  5. Why can’t I receive the mail?
    Please check whether your cell phone is normally linked to the internet, then make sure that you have initiated the ShangMail.
  6. Why do I always receive a system mail saying that my e-mail address configuration is wrong?
    It indicates that the configuration information of e-mail address that you added is wrong. Please check your configuration information according to the mail you received.
  7. Why is the ShangMail folder not deleted after the ShangMail software is uninstalled?
    Considering that mails kept in ShangMail folder may be of use for you, we retain the folder. You can delete this folder by yourself if it’s unnecessary, by following the instructions of your cell phone.
  8. How can I know the mail is sent successfully?
    All mails sent successfully through ShangMail will be kept in the “sent mails” folder, while those in “outbox” folder is being sent.
  9. How to configure a Gmail mail box?
    When adding a Gmail address, (1) you should log in your Gmail account and initiate the POP function. In “POP and Forward” in “Setting”; (2), the POP address of Gmail is pop.gmail.com, and its port is 995; while SMTP address is smtp.gmail.com and its port is 465. (3) You should tick off the SSL accreditation for the ports of incoming and outgoing servers.
  10. Why do e-mail boxes at 163.com and Gmail receive and send mails so slowly?
    Due to the particularity of e-mail boxes at 163.com, the ShangMail server allow a lower visit frequency, While e-mail boxes at Gmail also need longer time because you should establish the SSL linkage first.
  11. How do cell phones installed with Windows receive or send e-mails?
    Cell phones of this kind, such as Dopod series, send or receive e-mails through Outlook, the same as Short Messages, MMS and outlook.
  12. Why does a notice reading “Shangmail.exe cannot be opened, and maybe its certificate signature is not authentic……” pop up, when the phone is started?
    You may see this notice when installing ShangMail in the storage card and you can try to install it in the phone’s built-in storage.
  13. Is there any other software incompatible with ShangMail software?
    Maybe there is. For example, ShangMail may be incompatible with E-chatting software in Nokia cell phone, and with the plum blossom writing method in Dopod cell phone. We are now trying to working out this problem. If you find the software incompatibility has caused any problems, please inform us the name of such software. Thanks!

  1. Should we pay for the ShangMail?
    Currently no, you can subscribe Individual Edition for free.
  2. What fees will derive from using ShangMail?
    Two kinds of fees will derive from using ShangMail: one is for using ShangMail service and the other is for the corresponding GPRS traffic. Please refer to local outlets of China Mobile and China Unicome for details about the GRPS fees. We suggest you to subscribe ShangMail service along with GPRS traffic.

  1. Does ShangMail support WIFI? Which one does it prefer when both WIFI and GPRS are available?
    ShangMail does support WIFI, and it will choose the network with highest transmission rate automatically.
  2. How to set the internet connection for the cell phone?
    For most cell phones, you don’t have to set an access to Internet separately. If it is not set in your cell phone, you can simply add one in the connectivity setting. Please refer to your mobile service provider setting for your APN. For example, China Mobile subscribers can choose cmwap or cmnet; while China Unicom subscribers can choose #777. Both user’s name and password are empty.
  3. Is ShangMail incompatible with other software in the cell phone?
    No, but the security and protection software installed in the cell phone may block ShangMail’s access to internet. In that case, you should merely relieve that block for ShangMail.
Breakdown fixing

    Suggestion:Examine whether ShangMail has been linked to the internet.
    Note:The symbol at the right bottom will show ShangMail’s connection status.

    Suggestion:Restart ShangMail
    Note:ShangMail can be re-connected to the server by this way, as disconnection between the customer-end and the server may cause failure of sending or receiving e-mails.

    Suggestion:Restart your cell phone.
    Note:It may works if there are malfunctions inside your cell phone.

    Suggestion:Send an e-mail by your cell phone to an address previously set by yourself.
    Note:This is an easy way to find out whether your ShangMail is in a normal state. You can check in your computer whether you have received that mail.

    Suggestion:If the ShangMail in your cell phone has been turned off for a long time, the sequence of previous mails should be handled first at the customer end after reconnection.
    Note:Before receiving new mails, ShangMail should deal with the sequence of mails waiting to be received in the server, and send them to your cell phone in order of time.
